This silver fifty sen coin was struck in Japan during the reigns of Emperor Yoshihito (1922-1926) and his son, the Showa
Emperor, Hirohito (1926-1989).
The obverse features a sunburst in the center, between two cherry blossoms. An authority symbol on top represents the Japanese sign for yen (round object); the date rear of current Emperor's reign) and the Emperor's symbol are on the bottom, all within a sacred mirror.
The reverse of the coin shows a vertical value and denomination flanked by a phoenix. There is a Paulownia crest (deciduous tree) below, and a chrysanthemum on top.
