*** WW2 Japanese Ammunition Pouch used in the Battle of Okinawa, Immaculate Condition, Very Very Rare ***This is an original WW2 Ammo Pouch that was used in the battle of Okinawa in 1945. It belonged to my Grandpa who served for the United States Marine Corps during WW2. His name was Wayne J. Bowen. He passed at the age of 93 in 2017. Anybody that goes to battle may come home, but the battle still lives on within them. My Grandpa dealt with depression for many years because of the lives of young men that he took. He was shot during the battle of Okinawa in the face and miraculously survived.
The story behind the ammo pouch: While in battle my grandpa came across a young Japanese man who he fatally shot at very close range. He said there were so many emotions going through him, fear, anxiety, panic, depression, etc. He looked at the face of this dead soldier and took his ammo pouch off his belt. He said that if he were to make it out alive, he wanted to remember him so he could pray for him. He took his ammo pouch, as it was a moment that he felt compelled to try and remember this man. My grandpa was shot a short time after that in the side of his face. He survived and this one of the items that he had on his person when he was pulled out for medical attention.
I was very close to my grandpa and I still am. I have many things of his that I have had around to remember him and his kind and generous heart. I feel that I am at a place where some of these items have served their purpose with me, and this pouch is one of those things. Please feel free to message me if you have any questions.
