    Description

We offer for your consideration this WWII era Japanese bayonet.
This japanese bayonet carries the stamps of the Toyoda Jido Shokki Seisakusho Arsenal
Also known as the Toyoda Automatic Loom Works (TALW)
They produced these bayonets from 1938 to early 1945.
This bayonet was designed to be used with Ariska type 30 rifle. The barrel loop is approximately 14mm.
The overall length of this bayonet is approximately 20 3/4 inches. The blade is approximately 15 11/16ths long, 1 inch wide, and  1/4 inch thick.
The blade is a single edge with a slightly rounded spine. There is a fuller on both sides of the blade that is approximately 12 3/8ths inches long. there looks to be some traces of bluing, but the bluing has almost completely been removed. The blade edge is very keen from the tip to about halfway up the blade. There is one very small nick on the edge about 3 3/4 inches up from the tip.
The  guard is flat and approximately 3 3/16th end to end. The handle sides are wood and held in place with screws surrounded by oval metal escutcheons. The button functions moving freely with no binding. On the back of the pommel there looks to be a serial number stamped (see picture)
The scabbard is in good condition, but there is a small dimple dent near the tip on one side. If the scabbard was ever painted or blued, there is no trace of that as it is now.
This Japanese bayonet came to us through an estate sale, along with many other bayonets and knives. Keep an eye out for our other current postings and future postings.
If you are a collector of WWII bayonets, specifically the Pacific theatre, this bayonet will make a very nice addition to your collection.
