    Description

World War II ERA Japanese Currency
Fifty sen notes produced from 1942 - 1945 are called "Yasukuni 50 sen" (
    靖国
    50
    銭札
), after the Yasukuni Shrine. This shrine and Daiichi Torii (Great Gate) leading to the shrine are featured on the obverse side of the notes along with the symbolic golden kite bird of prey.
Both of these are war themed as the shrine honors those who died in service of Japan.
The reverse side of these notes meanwhile feature Mt. Takachiho-no-mine, which is also symbolic and sacred in Shinto folklore.
Each note measures 65 mm x 105 mm in size
